Red Sea: Transport insurers continue to tighten the reins
16.05.2025The reason for this massive deterioration is the diversions caused by the crisis in the Red Sea. This has resulted in delays of up to two weeks in some cases. CMA CGM is the most punctual carrier for the first time. Maersk performs surprisingly poorly.

The schedule adherence of liner shipping companies deteriorated significantly in January of this year. This is the result of analyses by the Danish market researcher Sea-Intelligence. The punctuality rate in the month under review was 51.6 percent.
This represents a 5.1 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month, marking the lowest level since September 2022.
The reason for this massive deterioration is the circumvention of the Cape of Good Hope in the wake of the crisis in the Red Sea, with the associated delays of up to two weeks in some cases.
Change at the Top
Compared to the same month last year, the current punctuality rate was 0.8 percentage points lower. In January, container ships arrived on average 6 days late, around 0.6 days more than in the previous month.
There has been a change at the top of the list of the most reliable carriers: After Evergreen held first place in December, CMA CGM took the lead in January. The French carrier achieved a punctuality rate of 54.7 percent, narrowly ahead of Wan Hai (54.7 percent) and Evergreen (54.3 percent).
Maersk performed surprisingly weakly with a score of 45.6 percent, just ahead of its prospective alliance partner, Hapag-Lloyd, with 45.4 percent. Yang Ming brought up the rear with 42.2 percent. (ol)
